Maroondah Aqueduct Replacement
February 27, 2017

State Liberal Member for Eildon Cindy McLeish MP is advising Murrindindi and Mansfield residents travelling through the Yarra Valley to not be alarmed by construction works that appear to be associated with the defunct North South Pipeline.
“I have been contacted by a number of residents from the Murrindindi and Mansfield Shires who drive past these works during their travels to Melbourne. Many residents are concerned these works have something to do with the North-South Pipeline,” Ms McLeish said.
“Despite the Andrew’s Government currently investigating recommissioning the North-South Pipeline, I am pleased to report the works being carried out are not in relation to Labor’s white elephant.”
Melbourne Water is upgrading a 5.7km section of the Maroondah Aqueduct between Balgownie Estate and Pauls Lane. Works began in late September with construction expected to be completed in 8 months.
This week a section of the Melba Highway was closed to allow for new pipes to be laid out.
“The Maroondah Aqueduct was built in the early 1890s to transfer water from the Yarra Valley to Preston Resevoir. The existing aqueduct has reached the end of its service life and these important works will help to enhance water security into the future,” Ms McLeish concluded.
